Sam & John

Myself & John met in our home town of Cleethorpes in 2007 through mutual friends.
We had our first daughter in 2009 and our second daughter in 2013. In December 2017 we brought our first home together and John proposed the day after we moved in  - I had just as I got out of the shower and was greeted with a huge bouquet of flowers and John down on one knee! Of course I was over the moon, but I wish he had at least let me get ready first!

We always knew that we wanted to get married in Rhodes as I had visited there as a child with my mum and had always loved to watch the weddings taking place in St Paul’s Bay. Unfortunately weddings were not permitted here when we were planning so we had to look elsewhere. We came across Lindos Weddings office in the village. I liked the fact they were based locally in Lindos but offered a meeting in the UK also. Once we had seen the venues and packages they offered we decided that Lindos Weddings could cater for our wishes & dreams!

We fell in love with Philosophia and it’s beautiful views! I felt super nervous booking a venue I hadn’t been to before but I was reassured by friends who we have that live in Lindos that we would be well looked after at Philosophia and the ladies from Lindos Weddings.

We stayed at the Lindos Princess along with 48 of our guests and it was amazing from start to finish. We got married on the 10th day of our holiday so there was quite a big build up to our big day and everyone was really excited.
We had a visit to Philosophia the week before our wedding to go through a few things and have a look around and it was truly stunning.
We got married at 4:15pm on Wednesday 2nd October 2019. The lovely Lindos weddings hair & make up artist arrived around 11am (I just had mother of the bride & groom and my two daughters in my room). I asked for natural make up but when I showed a photo of myself with what I class as natural I discovered I’m probably more glam! I was worried that it wouldn’t stay on but they use really good products. My natural/glam make up was perfect and it lasted all day and night!
My hair also stayed perfectly in place, I opted for a low bun as I had a veil.

My dress was a design by Maggie Sottero, I wanted something plain and simple but also with the wow factor. I opted for a veil to set off the simple detail at the back of the dress, my veil was three tiers as my dress had a trail. I also had a two tier veil which I swapped over once we had our photos so it was easier to manage for the evening.

I chose to have artificial flowers which I had made in the UK, I also had my bridesmaids flowers, button holes and cake topper made to match.

My two daughters were our bridesmaids, my eldest wore a light blue floor length dress and my youngest an ivory flower girl dress. We didn’t have a colour theme at first but when my husband chose his suits he liked the royal blue with a checked waistcoat and light blue cravat so the suits, button holes and bridesmaid dresses really complemented one another.

Lindos Weddings arranged for a coach to pick up our guests from the Lindos Princess and take them to Philosophia so they all arrived at the same time. Myself & my father went together in George’s taxi which was booked through Lindos Weddings. George was so lovely and communicated with Lorna at Lindos Weddings during our journey so that I arrived once our guests were seated.

Once we arrived Lorna from Lindos Weddings was there along with the photographer Antonis. We chose to have the 3 hour photography package from when our guests arrived at the venue along with 1 hour videography (we had a family member who took photos whilst we were getting ready). As soon as I arrived I felt relief to see Lorna as she was so lovely and organised. Lorna guided us through our ceremony so we knew where to stand and what to do and what was happening next. This was done so discreetly too, but yet whenever I needed something Lorna from Lindos Weddings was there on hand.

One of the most memorable parts of the day for us was just the two of us having our photos done, it really did feel magical and it was nice to have that time on our own.

We had a two tier naked wedding cake which we decorated ourselves with a cake topper. The staff at Philosophia served this to our guests later on in the evening, the cake was delicious and again all of our guests commented on it.
We had a DJ (Mark) for the evening supplied through Lindos Weddings. We chose to have the DJ arrive at 6pm so that he could welcome us as Mr & Mrs once all of our guests were seated for the reception which was a nice touch. This was also handy for the speeches as Mark introduced them. Mark listened to the kind of music our guest were wanting which was great and he really kept the party going!

My advice for future couples would be:
-Write a list of all the photos you would like and who with.
-Have fans for your lovely guests whilst sweltering in the heat awaiting your arrival!
-Remember it’s your day and you can’t always please everyone!
