Nicky and Glyn Edwards

Our wedding story began in 2019 when Glyn went down on one knee in a Cave Bar in Dubrovnik on my 43rd birthday. However, it was no ordinary proposal as he had a flash mob in tow.  He had arranged the whole thing himself from the UK and had persuaded the hotel owner to open the bar before the season had begun, found a local dance school and helped choregraph a dance routine to my favourite song. It was a total surprise and of course I said yes!

With such a flamboyant proposal under our belt we knew the wedding had to be just as special and chose St Paul’s Chapel for that reason – it certainly had the wow factor. Despite the now familiar Covid-induced cancellations our dream day finally went ahead three years and five months after my birthday proposal. It couldn’t have been more perfect standing with the view of the bay behind us and our four children, friends and family in front of us as we said our vows. We kept things simple and had two olive trees and the white carpet as our only décor letting the clear blue sea and sky and rugged rocks of the bay act as a natural backdrop.

Lindos Weddings were an easy choice after spotting their office in the backstreets of Lindos back in 2019 and being welcomed in by the lovely Yvonne. Karen’s whole team were credible, experienced and clearly passionate about their jobs. From Kay on Zoom and Lorna as my email buddy in the run up to the wedding, no question was left unanswered with Lorna even organising our scrumptious lemon wedding cake with less than two weeks to go. Sarah and Tash ensured the day ran like clockwork and chatted with our guests.

After booking an August wedding I knew I would feel more comfortable with my long hair up and off my face and I added a simple Greek-inspired sparkly silver comb. In the heat I wanted my neutral ‘pillow talk style’ make-up to stay put so with Kay’s recommendation ringing in my ears I took the plunge and booked Nigal’s team for both my hair and make-up on the day. I also booked to have a trial a couple of days before the wedding which was a great decision as it removed all the worry about whether I would be happy with the end result on my special day.

It was my dream to say ‘I do in Choo’ and my sparkly Jimmy Choo Cinderella-style ‘slippers’ definitely took centre stage. I teamed them with a white swirly mid-length dress, a simple silk flower bouquet (made by me) for the walk down the aisle and a Kate Spade bridal handbag of dreams for the reception. But by the first course I had kicked off my heels in true diva style in favour of white pearl Havaianas. My gorgeous groom traded his Loakes for bright red Havaianas too. This definitely made dancing much easier.

Our wedding day was a ‘dream come true’ – as we walked back up the winding path hand in hand as a married couple we just couldn’t believe we had finally done it.

My mum was the real hero of the wedding making all the gorgeous floaty navy bridesmaid dresses for Glyn’s daughters Cait and Emily and friends Abigail and Sienna, from just a picture I found on Pinterest. These dresses set the colour theme for the day and my two boys Jack and Samuel, who gave me away, wore navy shorts and white Ralph Lauren polo shirts and trainers. My gorgeous groom chose a white Ted Baker shirt and white Hackett trousers with dark brown belt and shoes.

There were so many amazing moments in our day it is hard to pick just one; however, our family dance with our four children has to be it. The Zach Brown Band song we chose is frequently played in our kitchen so all the children know the words off by heart.

We choose the Odyssia restaurant in the backstreets of Lindos for our reception venue. Its authenticity and simple beauty won us over. Match that with the most amazing local wine and ala carte food courtesy of Dimitris (it was possible after all 😉) and his fabulous team, music by Mark Usher (and an epic play list made by Glyn) and a dance floor made of mosaics and you had a winning combination. Our party spilled into the nearby Pals bar until 2am and then onto our villas until the early hours. It was definitely the crazy fun-filled wedding we wanted it to be.

If we had any words of advice for other couples it would be to invite only people you love, pick a venue that makes your heart sing and of course buy the shoes!
